Fumigation Of Public Places Ongoing In Delta State After Lassa Fever Outbreak In 7 States

Delta State has rolled out its Disease control department to begin the fumigation of markets, hospitals, schools and other public places to curb the spread of Lassa fever which has already been confirmed in 7 states in Nigeria.

John Nani, the State Commissioner for Environment who confirmed this yesterday, said it would be counter-productive for the state’s environment ministry to lag behind while the potential threat of the disease looms, noting that precautionary measures remain the best approach to adopt at present.
Dr. Lawal Bakare, Communication Technical Assistant of the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) had confirmed earlier that the outbreak of the fever has reached Nassarawa, Plateau, Ogun, Taraba, Ondo, Rivers and Edo States with significant casualties.

Lassa Fever an acute and often fatal viral disease, with fever, occurring chiefly in West Africa. It is usually acquired from infected rats.
