A man’s body has been discovered in the wheel well of a South African Airways plane parked at Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia.
The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority said the body of an adult male was found around 1.30pm Saturday by ground crew members assigned to the aircraft.
The Airbus A340 was sitting in a remote parking area at the time.
According to airport officials, the circumstances of the man's passing are under investigation. The body will be turned over to the Fairfax County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.
Tlali Tlali, a spokesperson for South African Airways, told NBC Washington that Flight SA 207 originated from Johannesburg and landed at Dulles Wednesday after making a stop in Dakar, Senegal.
‘We regret any loss of human life and are deeply concerned about the suspicious circumstances surrounding this incident..,’ Tlali said in a statement.
Dulles, located 25 miles west of the Capitol, is one of the nation's busiest travel hubs handling over 22million passengers a year.
