"Tell me who I should fight next. Khan or Maidana" - Floyd Mayweather.

The champion has asked boxing fans to vote on whether he should fight Britain's Amir Khan next or Marcos Maidana. Khan, 27, signed a contract in December that put him in line for a possible super-fight with Mayweather this year, but the Briton is still waiting to find out if he will face the unbeaten world light-middleweight champion.

A May showdown in Las Vegas has been mooted as a possibility, but the British fighter is not the only contender for Mayweather, with the Argentinian Maidana also an option. Mayweather, the pound-for-pound world No1, has sought the opinion of fans as to which of the two he should take on, writing on his Twitter account: "I'm going to let the fans vote. Tell me who I should fight next. Khan or Maidana?" Khan, a former world champion and 2004 Olympic silver medallist, has been holding out for a lucrative clash with 36-year-old Mayweather since suffering a scare in his last fight – a dramatic points victory over Julio Díaz – in Sheffield last April.

Bolton's Khan has a 28-3 record as a professional, while Mayweather has won all 45 of his bouts, including victory over the previously undefeated Ricky Hatton in 2008.
