Multi award wining Hollywood/British Films Veteran, Bob Hoskins died last night at the age of 71 following pneumonia, it has been revealed.
It comes two years after the much-loved actor announced he was retiring from show-business after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.Hoskins's silver screen career spanned four decades and included Hollywood hits such as Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
His most recent appearance was in Snow White and the Huntsman, released in 2012 and starring Kristen Stewart. His second wife Linda and children Alex, Sarah, Rosa and Jack said: 'We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Bob.
"Bob died peacefully at hospital last night surrounded by family, following a bout of pneumonia," his agent said in a statement. "We ask that you respect our privacy during this time and thank you for your messages of love and support."
Hoskins retired in 2012 after he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in the fall of 2011. He has been one of Britain's most beloved actors, starring in films including "The Long Good Friday," "Brazil," "Mermaids" and "Super Mario Bros." He was nominated for an Academy Award for his performance in "Mona Lisa," for which he won the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role and the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama in 1987.
