Duangjay Samaksamam, who hails from Surin Province in Thailand, suffers from an extremely rare and painful affliction that leaves her limbs permanently swollen.
Samaksamam, a shop owner, has been suffering from the condition called Macrodystrophia Lipomastosa for more than 50 years.
The disease causes vast amounts of fat deposits to be distributed across her arms and hands.
After a surgery made her condition worse, some doctors had suggested that the only possible solution would be to cut her hands' off, said a report.
Even the simplest tasks, such as washing and combing her hair, are extremely difficult for the single 59-year-old, the report said.
Embarrassed by her condition, Samaksamam spent the first 20 years of her life as a recluse, so she never went to school. But she was forced to come out of hiding to earn a living and took over running the family grocery shop.
"My hands are so heavy I can barely lift them to comb or shampoo my hair, it's very difficult. Getting dressed is also very difficult and painful," the report quoted her as saying.
Another pic after the cut.
