"My Wife has dated broke black dudes" Kanye West at BET Honors.

Kanye West has defended his wife Kim Kardashian saying she is not a Gold digger and did not marry him because of his money. The rapper also said that his reality star/wife even dated “broke black dudes” when she was young. West delivered a powerful speech on racism and the criticism he received because of marrying a white woman, at The BET Honors. The rapper was present with his wife Kim at the award ceremony on Jan. 24, 2015 in Los Angeles. West received the Visionary Award at the ceremony.

West recalled the time when he use to hear from various people that since he is an entertainer, he could easily get away by marrying a white woman who will fall for him because he is a “rich black dude.” But the rapper added that his wife Kim is not one of them. “But I wanna say that my wife has dated broke black dudes. The 37-year-old also told a story to the audience about Kim's late father Robert Kardashian, who was one of the defense lawyers in the famous O.J. Simpson murder trial. Robert found the words “N-gga Lover” scribbled on his Bentley one day and got furious. Robert, who usually never lost his temper, “went crazy” and even chased the men down, West said in his speech. Kim, who was also present with him at that time, asked her father why was he so furious about the incident.

“He said to her, ‘One day, you may have a black child…a beautiful, beautiful, beautiful black child…and it’s gonna be hard. You’re gonna see how hard it is,'” said Kanye. The rapper also said in his speech that people deal with racism because they follow “different races.” There should be just one race called “human race,” said West in his speech.

The BET awards are given to black celebrities who have excelled in fields including entertainment, education and technology. Other winners at the ceremony included Usher, John W. Thompson, the chairman of Microsoft, Johnnetta Betsch Cole, and actress Phylicia Rashad, among others.
