The "America's Got Talent" judge cum host reunited with the "Hero" singer on Easter Sunday, leading fans to speculate that they are already on good terms.
"It's one of those things, I'm a hopeless romantic too. Through this learning process, you never say never. To me one thing I know, that will always be the love of my life, always be my family and that's not going to change," he said.
The "Wild 'N Out" star also weighed in on how he thinks the media has been handling news about his divorce.
In the past, Cannon was asked whether or not he has plans of getting back together with the former "American Idol" judge. At the time, he said, "Never say never," and reporters thought a reconciliation was bound to happen.
"It's extremely disappointing when you see that people just want to perpetuate negativity when there is no even involved. They want to make up stuff and create things," he explained.
"You kind of get to a place where, I've always been the most open and honest person but I understand kind of playing it close to the vest because when you start to feed into it and there are so many false items and people just want to speculate then you don't want to say anything at all," he added.
When asked what he admired most about his ex-wife, Cannon said that it's Carey's professionalism and desire to keep family-related things private., Billboard reported.
"That's one thing I actually admire about Mariah because she is professional. You ain't going to get nothing out of her. I was like, 'You know what, I'm learning. I'm learning,'" he said.
