Yes We Khan: Sadiq Khan beats Zac Goldsmith to become first Muslim Mayor of London.

In an historic result Khan, a former human rights solicitor, will be London’s first British Asian, and first Muslim mayor.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn congratulated Khan on his victory on Twitter, using his campaign hashtag #YesWeKhan.

It is the biggest ever victory in a London Mayoral election.Khan, who grew up in a south London council estate, maintained a sizeable lead in the ballot counts throughout the day, with his Tory rival Zac Goldsmith trailing behind in second place.
Goldsmith was accused of running a ‘dog whistle’, ‘Donald Trump-style’ campaign, which repeatedly attempted to link Khan to extremist figures and beliefs.
