A Nigerian Science teacher Vincent Uzomah yesterday morning June 11 was stabbed over a mobile phone in Bradford. 14 year old Yusaf Khanny has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a teacher was stabbed at a school following an alleged row over a mobile phone.
The 50-year-old supply teacher, named locally as Vincent Uzomah, was taken to hospital from the Dixons Kings Academy, in Bradford, for treatment to a stab wound to his stomach on Thursday morning. His condition was described as stable.
Sources at the school said Nigerian-born Mr Uzomah, a supply teacher who had worked at the school for about a month, had tried to confiscate a mobile phone which a boy was playing with in a science lesson. He is understood to have been stabbed with a kitchen knife before the perpetrator fled and scaled a perimeter fence.
The teenager was held in Bradford City Centre this afternoon after police put out a description of him following the incident at the start of the school day.
Detective Superintendent Simon Atkinson, of West Yorkshire Police said specially trained staff were talking to the children who "potentially witnessed something horrendous".
Police were alerted by paramedics who were called to the school at around 8.55am.
Mr Atkinson said: "There were a number of pupils who witnessed this incident, which took place in a classroom, and they are currently liaising with our specially trained officers who are obviously supporting them at this difficult time.
"This is believed to be an isolated incident and the police are continuing inquiries to establish the facts.
"We're speaking with the pupils there to see what they actually saw.”
Police were called in at around 8.55am by an ambulance crew responding to a report of a member of staff having been stabbed.
At Mr Uzomah's home in Leeds, where he lives with his wife Uduak Imeh-Uzomah, a next door neighbour said:
"He's a really lovely neighbour, a lovely guy.
"I know Vincent and his wife. I speak to them in the garden. I believe he has taught at different schools and I'm not sure where he is teaching at the moment."
A woman who lives on the same street said: "I saw Vincent leave this morning as I have been outside all day decorating. I often see him and his wife and children and they are all very friendly.
"I know that he is a teacher and I think he teaches all over."
I dont blame these Idiots. Greener pastures.
