Nigerian/American singer Jidenna Theodore Mobisson has been receiving backlash following comment he made about Nigeria in a recent interview with VladTV.
The singer said he had to come to Nigeria with a lot of guns to protect himself himself from kidnappers during his father’s burial.
Model, designer and beauty consultant Sara Ofili took to her instagram page to defend the singer. She says Jidenna has a right to be scared of Nigeria.
Her post below...
"On dis @Jidenna issue. Kidnapping is a serious issue in this country. People from all works of life and different backgrounds have been targeted including sadly, babies n d elderly. I myself have had fellow Nigs tell me "u knw u're white don't go there o they'll kidnap u". So That an artist from the U.S was scared is only natural. Our reputation in the media is not particularly positive. Black, white, mixed, nobody is 100%safe. Now, is one especially vulnerable for being light skinned? No, but if you are light skinned and PERCEIVED to be a foreigner, or even Just a wealthy person then Hell Yes! he should be scared. Either way, you don't want to be seen as an easy target for kidnappers. He had every right to be cautious. Instead of spending our energy arguing about whether being light skinned attracts kidnappers perhaps people should instead urge the government to do something to solve the problem so we don't have to hear these kinds of unfortunate tales in the future. Everybody needs to be careful in this country. Black, white, mixed, whatever until the security issue in this country is solved. Let's spread love pls! Stay Blessed!✌🏼️ #Jidenna #MixedKids #SecurityIssues #Nigeria"
