A Westboro man accused of hiding nearly $20 million in cash in a box spring under his mattress is being called a risk to flee to Brazil, a judge ruled.
Cleber Rene Rizerio Rocha, 28, was ordered held without bail yesterday in an alleged TelexFree pyramid scheme. He’s charged with one count of conspiring to commit money laundering after agents investigating the TelexFree case found a box spring on Jan. 4 loaded with the allegedly ill-gotten loot in his Westboro apartment.Rocha’s lawyer, Raymond Sayeg Jr., argued for bail, even under GPS monitoring, saying Rocha has no criminal record.
Sayeg added: “However, given that he’s a citizen of Brazil, and Brazil does not recognize extradition, the judge was not convinced there was a certainty that the defendant would appear.”
